There are 24 games coming to PS5, while PS4 players get a slightly shorter list of 21 new game releases. The highlights of the week are the upcoming tactical RPG spin-off in the Persona franchise, Persona 5 Tactica, as well as the latest Naruto game, Naruto x Baruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections.

Other notable games due to be released this week include the beat ’em up Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2, the tactical RPG Jagged Alliance 3, the real-time strategy Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, and tie-in game The Walking Dead: Destinies.

Bandai Namco and Arika’s Tekken 8 is on its way to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on January 26. The latest installment of the long-running fighting game series will feature 32 characters at launch, including four new fighters.

On November 12, Bandai Namco revealed the fourth new character, Reina — finally giving fans a look at the complete launch roster.

Tekken 8’s ‘Purple Lightning’ revealed

Bandai Namco revealed the new character with a trailer showcasing some of her moves. Known as “The Purple Lightning,” Reina uses her speed to overwhelm enemies with a flurry of blows. The trailer included a look at her Heat Smash, a new ability coming in Tekken 8. Reina’s Heat Smash sees her knock her opponent down and drag them along the floor before throwing them across the room.

The purple-clad fighter is still relatively mysterious, with Bandai Namco only revealing a few details. These include Reina being a student at Mishima Polytechnical, the same school as the characters Xiaoyu Jin, Miharu, and Kunimitsu. She also has a particular desire to fight both the Tekken series protagonist, Jin Kazama, and antagonist, Kazuya Mishima. Combined with her fighting style, this seems to imply Reina has a hidden connection to the Mishima Clan.

Reina joins Peruvian MMA fighter Azucena, android super-soldier Jack-8, and French super-spy Victor as the fourth new character in Tekken 8. However, while Bandai Namco has shared much about those characters’ backstories and motivations, Reina remains mysterious. It seems that fans who want to learn more about her will have to wait until Tekken 8 launches early next year.

The holidays are nearly here, and with them come a ton of sales and discounts from companies including PlayStation, who has detailed what its 2023 Black Friday deals will look like.

On its PlayStation Blog, the company unveiled some of what fans can expect when the PlayStation Black Friday 2023 deals beginning on November 17, 2023. The blog notes that the sales will run from the 17th through November 27.

Sales on PS Plus, PlayStation Gear, and more

According to Sony, there will be deals across mostly every sector of the company, including on the PlayStation Direct store, where deals will include PlayStation 5 console bundles, PS5 console covers, and other titles also available on sale.

At participating retailers, PlayStation 5 products will also be available globally. As for PlayStation Plus, players who join from November 17-27 will be able to save up to 30% on 12-month membership plans, while existing PlayStation Plus members can save 25% when upgrading their plans to PlayStation Plus Extra or 30% when upgrading to PlayStation Plus Premium or Deluxe.

Other deals will also begin popping up between November 17-27 on the PlayStation Gear store, with savings of up to 20% off on existing merch, apparel, and more available. From November 24-27, orders over $75 will receive free shipping and also include a free PlayStation Heritage Katakana Hat.

Homelander recently arrived in the world of Mortal Kombat 1 as DLC for the game, but despite fans believing Antony Starr is involved, the actor said he wasn’t at all.

In a reply to some fans on Instagram, Starr — who plays Homelander in Amazon’s The Boys series — was asked if he voiced the role of Homelander. Another fan chimed in that he had to be, due to the voice sounding so similar, but Starr said he wasn’t involved with a simple “nope” response.

Homelander is part of Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack, which featured quite a unique lineup of characters. The Kombat Pack includes 11 characters in total, five of which are Kameos. Up first in the Pack were Omni-Man (from Amazon’s Invincible series) and a Kameo of Tremor.

While no concrete release information is set, Homelander is scheduled to arrive sometime in the spring of 2024, alongside Ermac, another Mortal Kombat staple. As for The Boys, Season 4 of the hit series is set to arrive on Prime Video sometime in 2024.

Naughty Dog‘s head of technology and formerly vice president Christian Gyrling has announced his departure from the studio. Gyrling worked at Naughty Dog for 17+ years, starting off as a programmer during the early days of Uncharted‘s development.

Gyrling became Naughty Dog’s technology lead this year after a stint as vice president

Gyrling worked his way up at Naughty Dog, becoming vice president in December 2020. After nearly three years in the role, he became the studio’s head of technology in July 2023. News of his departure was announced by Naughty Dog on Twitter, followed by a statement from Gyrling on LinkedIn.

“For the longest time I thought that I would retire at Naughty Dog, as I believe that Naughty Dog is one of the best video game companies out there,” Gyrling wrote in a note on LinkedIn. “However, life happens and environments and aspirations change. I have always enjoyed challenges and now I am taking on some new ones.”

Gyrling didn’t reveal what he plans to do next, but said that he will look forward to playing Naughty Dog games as a consumer. “The games we have created together have changed people’s lives and brought families and friends together,” Gyrling added. “To have been part of that is something that I will forever be proud of.”

Sony‘s set to add a Disney Pixar PSP game to PS Plus Premium classics lineup in the near future, if a rating board listing is anything to go by. 2009’s action-adventure game Up has been rated for the PS5 and PS4 in Taiwan.

PS Plus Premium classics likely getting PSP version of Up

Up was developed for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii by Heavy Iron Studios whereas its PSP, PS2, PC, and Mac versions were developed by Asobo Studio — the French developer behind A Plague Tale video games.

According to Gematsu, who first spotted the Taiwanese rating board listing, it’s the PSP version that’s headed to PS Plus Premium. There are differences between Up’s various versions. The PS3 game differs from the PSP and PS2 versions in that the latter are lengthier and allow players to explore and go off the path.

Deluxe players will hope for the PSP version since PS3 game streaming is limited to Premium users in select regions.

As for when Up will be added to the PS Plus classics, that’s anybody’s guess right now. It also remains to be seen if the game will receive trophy support as Sony has left that to developers’ discretion.

A concept artist may have ended up corroborating previous rumors of Wolverine PS5 release date window alongside leaking a release window for Bend Studio‘s unannounced PS5 game. The “leak” comes from the ArtStation profile of Hung Nguy, who has since scrubbed any mention of Wolverine and Bend Studio.

Wolverine PS5 release date could be as early as next year, according to reports

Screenshots of Nguy’s ArtStation profile have been making rounds online, with Marvel’s Wolverine listed as a 2024 release and Bend Studio’s game listed as a 2025 release. While these could merely be placeholders, we’ve previously heard reports that Insomniac Games is targeting a release window of 2024 for Wolverine. Journalist and insider Jeff Grubb suggested as much.

Back in February, Grubb claimed to have heard that Wolverine is targeting a 2024 release but could potentially slip into 2025. He further claimed that Wolverine will be a semi open world game with a linear design, and will be targeting a mature audience. Not much is known about Bend Studio’s mystery project.

As soon as Nguy’s profile made rounds, he removed any mention of Wolverine and Bend Studio from his portfolio. It’s possible that Nguy made a mistake since he works as a contractor, so take this with a grain of salt.

The PS5 Slim‘s detachable disc drive seems to work on multiple consoles as long as players register it to the console they intend to use it on. A YouTuber who tested this confirmed that a single disc drive can be registered to multiple PS5s at the same time.

How the PS5 Slim disc drive pairing works

Sony never officially explained how the PS5 Slim’s detachable drive would work, so eyebrows were raised when it was discovered via a leaked retail unit’s box that the drive needs to be paired online prior to use. Many assumed that this was bad news for game preservation, while some expressed concerns that Sony would limit the use and repairability of drives. However, this is not the case.

YouTuber TronicsFix got their hands on multiple PS5 Slim units and found that the handshake is a one-off requirement and unless players factory reset their consoles and unregister their drives manually, they’ll remain registered to a console for good. What’s more is that players can pop the drive into a new console and will be able to register it as Sony allows multiple simultaneous registrations.

Sony has also made it easy to swap the disc drives back and forth. Swapping the drives between consoles will not prompt players to re-register if they’ve already paired it once. All of this is demonstrated in the video below.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 developer Sledgehammer Games has removed several multiplayer maps from rotation due to spawning issues. The game has been suffering from teething problems since the campaign was released in early access, and the multiplayer modes seem to be following suit on its official release day.

Which Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer maps have been removed?

Quarry, Rundown, and Scrapyard are the three maps that have been removed from Hardpoint playlists. Many players have taken to Twitter to complain about the spawn issues, particularly on Quarry; here players were spawning in exactly the same spot repeatedly, leaving them to be cannon fodder for the opposition.

Later on in the day, Karachi was “temporarily removed” from the Cutthroat playlist as players were spawning alongside their enemies. Sledgehammer Games is currently investigating all of the issues with these four maps, but there is no estimate of when a fix will be applied.

A day-one update was released earlier today that fixed numerous crashes and loading issues, as well as a long list of other problems with the game’s campaign and multiplayer modes. Since then, another hotfix has been released that contains the following bug fixes:

• Fixed an issue where loading into MW2 from MW3 could result in longer load times than intended
• Fixed an issue that could cause a crash when entering the Weapons tab when cross-launching from MW3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has been poorly reviewed by critics and gamers, although the latter also review-bombed the wrong game. Many of the complaints have been aimed at the game’s short campaign. Reports had suggested that the development time for Modern Warfare 3 was less than 1.5 years, significantly shorter than previous entries in the franchise, although Sledgehammer Games has since refuted this, saying the game was “years in the making.”

Yong Yea, the voice actor and YouTuber who will be portraying the English version of Kiryu in Sega’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, showed off some of the work he’d done on the character and faced some criticism online in the process.

Yea recently took to Twitter to share a brief comparison video of the Japanese voice for Kiryu in the upcoming game (portrayed by Takaya Kuroda) and himself. In the tweet, Yea notes that it’s “some of the first stuff” that was recorded for the game and that his performance became “more refined” as they went along.

Like a Dragon fans divided over English voice-acting performance

While plenty of fans did have positive things to say about Yong Yea’s portrayal, many fans also voiced their criticisms (both constructive and not) about the performance. Namely, fans pointed out that Yea’s voice didn’t carry the same gruffness that the Japanese voice actor did, with many noting that it sounded too much like the content creator to their ears.

Other complaints also noted that the Yea simply sounded too young for the role. In the game, Kiryu is a 51-year-old man, while Yea, 28, is significantly younger. However, the actor did note in a follow-up tweet that it was “kinda strange” hearing his own voice in the role at first and said that fans should pick the one that’s right for them.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is set to launch on January 26, 2024, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
